  1. How can I subscribe to Genealogy Quebec?

    There are currently four ways to subscribe to Genealogy Quebec.

    • Credit card online, by heading over to this page subscription eand selecting Credit card in the drop down menu during the subscription process.
    • Paypal, by heading over to this page subscription and selecting Paypal in the drop down menu during the subscription process.
    • Credit card by phone, by contacting the Drouin genealogical Institute at 514-400-3961 (M-F 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM EST)
    • Cheque by post, addressed to “Institut généalogique Drouin” at the following address:

  2. I am unable to log into my Genealogy Quebec account

    There are many different reasons why you may be unable to log into your account.
    If you have a subscribed by phone or cheque, there will be a slight delay before your account is activated.
    It is also possible that your subscription has run out. If that is the case, you will still be able to log into your account, but you won’t be able to use the research tools and databases.
    Finally, a technical issue may be preventing you from logging in, such as one related to javascript and cookies. Try using a different web browser to see if the issue still persists. If that is the case, contact us at 514-400-3961 (L-V 8:30 à 16:30, HNE) M-F 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM EST) or contact@institutdrouin.com for further assistance.

  3. What is Genealogy Quebec?

    Genealogy Quebec is a subscription based research website regrouping all of the collections and tools developed by the Drouin Institute over the course of its existence.

    The website’s 16 tools and collections total for over 44 million images and files covering all of Quebec as well as part of the United States, Ontario and Acadia from 1621 to this day. Genealogy Quebec is by far the largest collection of Quebec genealogical and historical documents on the Web. You will find more information about the website in this article

  4. What are the kinds of tools and documents available on Genealogy Quebec?

    Genealogy Québec offers more than 44 million files and images of all kinds within its 16 tools and collections. That includes all parish registers in Quebec from 1621 to the 1940s, millions of death notices, tombstones and death cards, hundreds of thousands of notarized contracts and postcards, and much more. It is the largest collection of Quebec genealogical documents available online. You will find more information about our tools and their content in this section of our blog.

  5. What is PRDH-IGD?

    Le PRDH-IGD est un répertoire de tous les actes de baptêmes, mariages et sépultures catholiques célébrés au Québec entre 1621 et 1849, soit plus de 2.5 millions d’actes répertoriés, ainsi qu’un dictionnaire généalogique des familles (reconstructions familiales). Ce qui fait du PRDH-IGD une ressource unique est la structure de sa base de données.   7. Do you plan to extend the period covered by the LAFRANCE?

    The LAFRANCE currently covers the Catholic baptisms and burials from 1621 to 1861, the Catholic marriages from 1621 to 1918 and the Protestant marriages from 1760 to 1849.
    Our long term objective is to index the entire Drouin Collection Records, in other words all of the Catholic and Protestant records from Quebec between 1621 and 1940.
    For the marriages, we must respect a period of 100 years before making the index available online, which explains why they currently stop in 1918.

  8. How to report errors in the databases?

    For the LAFRANCE

    At the bottom of every LAFRANCE record certificate, you will find a link to “Send a comment”.
    Use this link to report any mistakes in the certificate.
    Please note that our transcriptions are meant to provide easy access to the relevant information contained in the record, as it appears on the original document.
    Thus, information that has been accurately extracted from the record always prevails, even if the information happens to be incorrect due to a mistake by the priest.
    List of mistakes to report :

    • Missing record (i.e. present in the document but not in our files)
    • Missing, broken or incorrect image link (if possible, include the correct image link in your comment)
    • Incorrect or missing dates
    • Incorrect or missing names and surnames
    • Incorrect sex
    • Incorrect or missing age at death
    • Missing parent or spouse
    • Other questions relevant to the content of the record

    Genealogy Quebec is designed to be used by both French and English speakers. The entire website is available in English, from the menus to the tutorials to the various search engines and databases. Most original documents will only be available in their original language, but they will often be accompanied by a readout of the important information contained in the record, which is available in both French and English.
