Genealogy and academic research

A successful partnership between genealogy and academic research

The Drouin Institute, Jean-Pierre Pepin and Sébastien Robert are pleased to bring the genealogy community together with academic research. This new approach will support high-quality growth for everyone involved.

By partnering with university research projects(*) to ensure the complete indexing and distribution of nineteenth-century civil records, the Drouin Institute is establishing an extremely fruitful collaboration. On the one hand, practitioners of French-Canadian genealogy will finally gain systematic and effective access to baptisms, marriages and burials from a period that has necessarily received less coverage until now because of the very large number of records involved. On the other hand, the indexes will be made available to researchers, helping to enrich research infrastructures already established at universities and enabling studies in fields related to historical and social sciences, as well as human biology and population genetics. The nineteenth century is important to research because it marks the transition from a centuries-old demographic system to the contemporary model. It is a dream come true for genealogists and academics alike!
